M V Shetty Group of Institutions Mangalore is one of the oldest and best-known institutions in Mangalore. Dr. M.V. Shetty Memorial Trust is the pioneer of paramedical degree programs. Among the firsts achieved by the Trust since 1987 was the first Nursing college at B.Sc. and M.Sc. levels under private management, the first B.P.T and M.P.T degree college, and the first BASLP and MASLP self-financing institution in the State. All of these have progressed to the doctoral level.

M V Shetty Group of Institutions Mangalore Offers other courses including MLT (Medical Lab Technology) at UG and PG levels, a post-graduate degree (MSW) course in Social Work, and a B.Ed. program in Education, a diploma course in General Nursing (GNM), a Diploma course in medical laboratory technology (DMLT), and a post-graduate Diploma in Classical Dance (Bharatanatyam). The Trust manages 15 different graduate, postgraduate, Doctoral and Diploma programs in 7 colleges affiliated either with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences or Mangalore University.

Outreach to the community proceeds at many levels, such as operating the Blood Bank at Government Wenlock and Lady Goshen hospitals with supportive Lab facilities, the conduct free camps in Mangalore and the rural hinterland, free treatment for patients at our clinics, and incorporating 3eco-friendly and professional involvement at all the centers and institutions, we associate with be they schools, hospitals or NGO’s. Our placement and recruitment record has been noteworthy, with alumni positioned in key posts or notable entrepreneurial concerns around the globe.

Facilities Provided by M V Shetty College

Transportation Facility

M V Shetty Group of Institutions Mangalore maintains a fleet of vehicles including several buses to transport students to their respective study centers and to their respective hostels. The transport facility is also provided to students for Clinicals, University related works, fests for sports and cultural competitions held in different colleges.

Sports and Games Facility

The college managed by M V Shetty Group of Institutions Mangalore has a physical education department managed by the director of physical education. The student of the college regularly participate in inter – collegiate tournaments in various sports and games events both within the university area and outside the university. The physical Education Department of the College regularly organizes Inter Collegiate competitions in various sports events and Inter College Tournaments in games events generally in the month of January every year.

Library in Dr. M V Shetty College

Enriching the Lives of Our Students The college Library is spacious and is open to the students and staff of the college, who have library membership cards. The college has four libraries equipped with about 14000 volumes of books related to the subjects, 40 National and International journals and E-Journal, 1100 back volumes of the journals and nearly 1400 thesis are available in the Library.

Canteen

Dr. M.V.Shetty Memorial Trust college Campus has a spacious Canteen facility for the benefit of staff and students of the colleges and it is run by an experienced Caterer of repute. The Canteen is having a modern kitchen equipped with facilities for hygienic food preparation. Vegetarian and non vegetarian foods, soft drinks, ice creams and snacks are provided in the canteen at nominal cost. North Indian and South Indian dishes are also provided in the Canteen for the choice of students.

Computer Centre of Dr. M V Shetty College

Student Education Comes First The Computer Center was started in the year 1994 at the College Campus, to impart training programme on basic knowledge on computers and its applications to students.

Hostel

Separate hostels are provided for boys and girls. Hostel is compulsory for girls till the completion of their course. Hostel is compulsory for boys in the first year. Altogether there are five hostels maintained by the Trust. The hostel inmates are provided with breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner. The Trust takes care to serve the students with hygienic food and to keep the kitchen and the dining halls clean and tidy. The concept of the Trust regarding the hostel is to make the student feel a home away from home.

Canteen

ATM Facility The ATM of the Corporation Bank is housed in the premises of the building of Dr. M.V.Shetty Trust Colleges at Vidayanagar, Kavoor, Mangalore. This facility can be availed by the student and staff of the colleges.

Eligibility For B.Sc. Nursing

• Pass in 10 + 2 or Pre- University examination conducted by the Department of Pre – University education, Karnataka or equivalent as recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as optional subjects provided the candidate has secured not less than 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. (In the case of SC/candidates the minimum is 40%)
• Candidates should be medically fit. Candidates who have passed the vocational courses of HSE, Kerala with Domestic Nursing and who have taken a minimum of 5 subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English in addition to vocational subjects are also eligible provided they have secured no less than 45% marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English (In case of SC/ST candidates the minimum is 40%)
• Candidates should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
• Candidates should be medically fit.

Eligibility For M.Sc. Nursing

• Passed B.Sc. Nursing (Basic) or PostBasic B.Sc. in Nursing degree or Post Certificate B.Sc. Nursing of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka (RGUHS) or any other University excepted as equivalent by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.
• Minimum of one year experience after obtaining B.Sc. Nursing (Basic), in a hospital or in a Nursing Educational Institution or community health setting. For candidate with Post Basic B.Sc. in nursing degree no such experience is needed.
• Registered in the State Nursing Council as registered nurse and registered Midwife / Psychiatric Nurse .

Criteria for selection of M.Sc. Candidates in Dr. M V Shetty College

The selection shall be based on merit judged on the basis of aggregate of marks obtained in the university examination 1st year to final year Basic B.Sc. Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing and marks obtained in the selection test.
